After work today: Achilles benefit @ Bar Nine. Yankee baseball, NCAA tourney…

dodgersToday's Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans benefit happily coincides with baseball's Opening Day. Come by to see some baseball and the hoops later...and make sure to help Achilles, donations are tax deductible. Bar Nine, 9th Ave. between 53rd & 54th St. Bar Nine has the Mets at 1pm and the Yanks (away) at 4pm. Catch the Yanks game after work and we'll have a Achilles station set up for donations. $3 Bud/Bud Lite, good chow, big screen TV for baseball and tonight's Hoops game. So it's baseball, then hoops (award ceremonies?) - but really it's a chance to drop a few bucks towards a cause that means a great deal to some people we should remember, wounded vets. For me war injury is an abstract concept, barely computes. But after talking with Genna from Achilles, someone with a personal stake in this department, I'm left thinking about actual people instead of subjects of 60 Minutes stories... this is very real. Achilles will have a rep (or more, I think) on hand to help with questions I can't speak to, but the organization is a national effort. Here's a link to some Achilles Freedom Team background and an upcoming race schedule for Apr 20: Boston Marathon May 25: LA Marathon May 31: San Diego Rock 'n Roll Marathon Jun 28: NYC Hope & Possibility 5M in Central Park Sep 13: Montreal Marathon Oct 11: Bank of America Chicago Marathon Oct 25: Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC Nov 1: ING NYC Marathon Nov 15: Rock 'n Roll San Antonio Marathon Dec 6: Marathon of the Palm Beaches Dec 6: Rock 'n Roll Las Vegas Marathon Come on by today... BAR NINE 9th Ave, between 53rd & 54th 6pm on $3 Bud/Bud Light, draft selection
